For about twenty seconds, during the night of May 5-6, the earth shook in Grésivaudan, near Chambéry. According to our colleagues at Dauphiné Libéré , an earthquake of magnitude 3.6 was measured. No injuries or significant damage were recorded by the Savoie firefighters.

"Indeed, there was an earthquake last night around 3:40 a.m. local time, with a magnitude of approximately 3.6. It was a fairly moderate earthquake that could be felt by the population," Sophie Lambotte, a seismologist at the French Central Seismological Bureau (BCSF), explained to our colleagues.

At the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center, there were numerous witnesses. "The ground shook and a loud boom woke us up," "We were asleep. A wave ripped through the house, cracking the beams and floors with a loud bang." The tremor was reportedly felt as far away as Maxilly-sur-Léman, 126 kilometers from the epicenter.

Although the French Central Bureau of Earthquakes (BCSF) considers this earthquake to be moderate, seismologists are calling for witnesses : "These testimonies will allow us to assess the severity of the tremor, but also to study all the variabilities of ground movement, particularly site amplification phenomena," explains Sophie Lambotte.
